Bath Tourism Plus has just launched a new campaign to entice tourists to the area for 2008. Despite a 2007 study revealing that few people know much about the city at all, the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath had more than four million visitors this year and the new tourism campaign is trying to get them to come back for more.
According to Bath Tourism Plus, although many elements of the city are timeless, like the stunning architecture, the history and the heritage, many other aspects are continually changing and being redeveloped. The hospitality sector, with its many fine hotels, always has something new to offer and the nightlife is always surprising.
Bath has a reputation as being one of the world's most romantic destinations and it is a reputation well earned. Plenty of European cities have the architecture and luxury hotels that Bath has, but none have Jane Austen's 'Gravel Walk' or the stunning views from the top of Beckford's tower. There is no better way to enjoy a walk by the river, a boat trip on the waters or a romantic candlelit dinner on the shore than to enjoy it with a loved one.
Since Jane Austen first visited, Bath has been a city of celebrities and it remains so today. For those who aren't enticed by the Jane Austen free walking tour, strolls through the city have sometimes been reported to yield glimpses of some of the area's famous residents including Peter Gabriel, Johnny Depp and Nicolas Cage. As a popular film location, any number of celebrities may be visiting and working in the area at any time.
Those who have shopped in Bath in the past will hardly recognise many areas of the shopping district in 2008, as the area has undergone some vast transformations. Bath has always been a great place for shopping but next year, the winding cobbled streets of the shopping area will boast new boutiques, cafes and delightful open spaces.
Finally, at the heart of the city is, of course, the Roman Bath. Whether it's the history of the original Roman spa or the soothing treatments offered in the new Thermae Bath Spa, Bath is famous for its relaxing therapies and curing waters.
Bath is connected to the UK and to Europe by a high speed train. The train station is a mere five minute walk from the shopping and tourist area of Bath.
