European World Travel Award distinctions

Every year at the World Travel Awards (WTA), members of the tourism industry in Europe gather for a chance to win the recognition afforded by taking away a trophy. This year more than 50 awards were presented at the Newcastle Mariott Hotel Gosforth Park in a glamorous event hosted by Jon Culshaw, a comedian most well known for his appearance in the BBC show Dead Ringers.

The event was attended by 300 guests from 19 countries in Europe including some of the industry's biggest names.

Among the 50 trophies were eight new awards in the green category. "As a responsible authority for the travel industry, the World Travel Awards are keen to encourage creativity and leadership that will lead to a sustainable future." said Manon Han, Vice President of the World Travel Awards.

Perhaps the most prestigious of these distinctions, the "World's Leading Eco-friendly Airport" award, went to East Midlands Airport.

The award for Europe's Leading Car Hire went to Europcar. Swiss International Airlines scooped the much coveted prize for Europe's Leading Airline, while Hotel Le Bristol Paris won the distinction of Europe's Leading Hotel.

The Annual World Travel Awards Ceremony will be held in Turks & Caicos on December 12th.
