Low-cost carrier, Flyglobespan, recently launched new daily flights between London Stantsed and Toronto, Canada. One-way fares are expected to start at £99 for economy class and £204 for business class.
Another low cost provider, SunExpress, also announced new destinations. The airline will be providing direct service between Stansted and Izmir, Turkey. The Turkish route will allow for ongoing connections into Northern Cyprus. SunExpress began operations earlier in the year, offering flights between Stansted and Antalya, Turkey.
Nick Barton, BAA Stansted business development and planning director said, Expansion of long-haul is firmly on our agenda so we're delighted to see Flyglobespan start long-haul daily flights linking Stansted to Toronto's Hamilton airport in Canada.
Low cost long-haul connections have become increasingly available over recent years, particularly out of Stansted Airport. Flights are now available to New York, Las Vegas and Washington at rates below those offered by traditional airlines. Barton hopes that in the future, such flights will be available to Asia, the Middle East and India.
We're in on-going discussions with a number of airlines keen to tap into the long-haul opportunities here at Stansted, the growth of which I'm sure will build on the great success we've achieved in developing our European network, he said.
