Stella buys Global Travel Group

On Tuesday, during the convention for the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), Stella Travel Services UK announced it's recent purchase of the Global Travel Group. With the recent purchase, which was for an undisclosed sum, Stella has become the largest independent network of travel agents within the country.

Before the purchase, Stella was responsible for 80 Harvey World Travel agencies as well as Travelbag, a longhaul retailer. With the 783 Global and Independent Options members of Global Travel group, Stella is now responsible for a network of 1,100 travel agents.

Andrew Laurie, the managing director of Stella Travel Services UK said: "From our perspective in the UK Stella is still slightly unknown and we feel this is a great fit for us."

Stella is part of a larger parent company, Stella Travel Holding, which operates out of Australia and owns Travel 2/Travel 4 in Britain. The group's global founder is George Begg.

Begg says the new acquisition will help the company grow and he looks forward to more acquisitions in the future. "This gives us financial clout immediately so we can grow ambitiously," he said.

How Global will be branded in the future is still a matter of further discussion but it has been announced that Global members will be able to use the Harvey World Travel brand, if they wish.
