Singapore Airlines offers suite-service on superjumbo

Yesterday, Singapore Airlines took possession of the very first A380 superjumbo jet in Toulouse, a city in the south of France. The enormous double-decker aircraft is the first of a new breed of planes which is revolutionising the travel experience, at least for those who can afford it.

The Airbus A380 is a plane with 471 seats in total in three classes of service. There are the usual economy and business class seats and then there are 12 suites which set the plane a large step ahead of anything else on the market.

Described as a class beyond first, the suites offer large double beds fitted out with designer linens. Passengers can snuggle down, watch their 22-inch flat screen TV and even cuddle with their partner in the next suite, as the rooms (and beds) can be joined together, if desired.

Singapore Airlines will be using the A380 to operate flights between Singapore and Sydney beginning later this month. A return ticket in the suite without tax should cost approximately £3,500.

The airline expects to begin suite-service to Britain this spring.
