Jamaica to promote music for tourism

Jamaican Minister Edmund Bartlett aims to increase tourism on the island by encouraging local events, according to The Jamaica Observer.

Mr. Bartlett highlighted the importance of music when addressing the attendees of the Reggae Academy Awards. He linked local music festivals to tourism, and promoted music as a potential year-round attraction.

Jamaica is already an extremely popular holiday destination, but the Jamaican tourism minister said the country seeks to increase their numbers from three to five million tourists per year.

Mr. Bartlett expressed high hopes for the winter season, along with intentions to invest more in tourism. "The tourism industry, starting from now onward, will be bringing to the table somewhere in the region of £713 million of investment in this country," Bartlett said.
