The holiday season is a time of excitement and anticipation. As it is also a time for shopping trips abroad and holiday vacations, it's important not to forget your single trip travel insurance in all the excitement. Holidays can be full of hazards and travel insurance can help protect against some of them.
Travellers heading to the Continent for shopping in the many Christmas markets there should take precautions against pickpockets who often thrive in the large, bustling crowds. Put your wallet in a secure place and consider separating your cash and credit cards. Before heading out to shop, make sure your insurance policy covers theft of cash and credit cards and if something should happen, head straight to the police station to file a report in order to make a claim.
Anyone escaping the winter season with a vacation in the sun should make sure they have adequate travel insurance for their vacation. Be sure to discuss any pre-existing medical conditions with your insurance provider before purchasing a policy and ask questions so you know what your policy covers.
Probably the most important coverage you'll need if you are heading abroad for Christmas is protection for your luggage. Lost, stolen, damaged or delayed bags full of gifts can ruin a Christmas, but at least those with insurance will be able to replace the loss.
While some are escaping to the sun, others are revelling in the snow. If your winter trip involves sleigh rides with Father Christmas in Lapland or hitting the slopes of Switzerland, it's important to make sure you have the winter sports cover you need to protect you in case of an accident.
As Dave Foyle, head of insurance at Bradford & Bingley, commented: "Christmas, although a time for celebration, doesn't come without its fair share of stresses, not least if you're heading off abroad for the festive season.
With expensive Christmas presents in your luggage or the promise of fun on the slopes, travellers should be warned that December can be a costly month for travel claims and so it is essential that they are covered by insurance for all eventualities."
