During the month of August, construction on the M25 route near Gatwick Airport may slow down those trying to catch flights, prompting airport operators to warn passengers to leave plenty of time for the drive.
Although most of the construction will be taking place at night, the road may be closed during certain periods of the day, with detours and diversions adding to travel time to the airport. The Highways Agency has assured travellers that detours will be well marked and signposted.
In Surrey, resurfacing of the road in the area around junction 7 will continue throughout the month of August.
Although the disruptions may be annoying now, in the long run, they will make for a smoother drive.
The project manager involved, Tim Lyver explained: The surface needs to be replaced and we advise any members of the public heading to Gatwick during August to allow extra time.
Gatwick is second only to Heathrow as Britain's busiest airport and saw more than 34 million passengers last year.
