Britons prioritising insurance

Research recently conducted by Prudential indicates that many Britons consider insurance to be a priority, even in times of financial difficulty.

In a poll conducted by the financial group, the majority said that if they had to chose, they would select life insurance and home contents coverage over their television subscriptions and mobile phone contracts.

In fact, when it came to insurance, more than a third (35 per cent) declared life insurance to be the most valuable kind of insurance to hold. Twenty per cent of those who responded to the poll placed income protection in first place and 12 per cent though critical illness cover to be the most vital.

Unfortunately, for many people today, prioritizing expenses and picking out the most important forms of insurance is a necessity. According to PruProtect’s chief executive officer, Sammy Rubin, today’s credit crunch is forcing more and more people to slash their budgets and take tough decisions about where to spend their money.

"Life insurance-related policies such as income protection can be a vital lifeline, supplying funds to cover day-to-day costs such as mortgage or debt repayments," he said.

For those who remain unaffected by the tough financial conditions, travel insurance remains as important today as it always has for travellers.
