First-time cruisers wanted

Travellers sitting in front of a travel agent may soon find themselves listening to a pitch to try cruising for a change.

A new training pack is being released to help travel agents persuade travellers into hopping on board a cruise. The pack includes a CD-ROM featuring the company's most modern ship. The pack was developed and released by Ocean Village in order to address popular objections to taking a cruise and designed to "convert potential cruisers into bookers".

Gill Haynes, Ocean Village's head of marketing communications explained: "Half the agents out there get what Ocean Village is all about but for the other half we have a stack of practical, hands-on info and advice to give agents an extra shot of confidence when first timers come through their shop door.

The information pack is intended to assist new travel agents get started in the cruise industry as well as to help travellers learn more about cruising and dispel many of the myths and misconceptions floating around about cruise holidays.

Haynes added: "Newcomer couples and families are the lifeblood of Ocean Village and this pack explains why its informal Holidays have become so popular with them.

Norwegian Cruse Lines also recently announced plans to target new cruisers to its ships. The cruise industry has been growing in the UK according to the Passenger Shipping Association.
