On May 15th 2008, Ireland-based budget airline RyanAir will make its first flight from Bristol to Beziers. After months of rumours and speculation, the announcement comes as welcome news to many who will take advantage of the low-cost service. At the same time, the airline announced flights would also take off to two other French airports: to Bergerac in Dordogne and to Pau in the Pyrenees Atlantique.
The airline plans to operate three weekly flights between Bristol and Beziers with the first tickets already on sale and available for a limited time for only one centime each way, plus taxes and charges. With credit card charges included, a return trip should cost about 16 euros.
Beziers is located in the Herault department in central Languedoc and is becoming an increasingly popular vacation destination. With five airports in the region offering flights to the UK and the rest of Europe and with a new high speed rail link under construction, the area is opening up to the world.
Ryanair's CEO Michael O'Leary said: "Passengers in the south-west have just three weeks to wait until Ryanair launches flights from Bristol with fares half the price of Easyjet.
"Our record advance bookings confirm that passengers in Bristol can't get enough of Ryanair's guaranteed lowest fares and, in response, we are already adding three new routes - to Bergerac, Beziers and Pau - starting in May.
The airline's base in Bristol will open in just three weeks time but the lowest fares on these new routes is available for a limited time only, so its best to catch them now.
