The World Airport Survey, conducted by the British company, Skytrax, has named Hong Kong as the world's best airport in 2007. It is the first time Hong Kong has come first in the survey and the airport was in good company with two other Asian airports sharing second place.
South Koreas Incheon Airport and Singapore's Changi Airport were both awarded second place prizes in the global survey, which also ranks the world's top airlines and gives prizes in regional categories.
Airports were evaluated in some 40 categories but some of the most important factors considered were the ease of using the airport and passengers' average waiting time.
Those are the criteria that contributed to London Heathrow losing ground in the rankings this year, slipping from 45th best airport in the world in 2006, to 103rd place. Frankfurt is also slipping. In 2006, it was placed 48th overall, whereas this year it finds itself in 94th place.
Munich Airport placed first in the regional rankings for Europe and was awarded fourth place globally. Second place in Europe was Zurich, which also did well stacked against international competition, placing 5th overall.
In the North American region, Vancouver Airport was voted the world''s best airport.
