Scottish cities have lowest car insurance rates

A new study indicates that the lowest rates for car insurance are to be found for residents of Scotland.

Price comparison website moneysupermarket.com discovered that the average insurance premiums charged to residents of Dundee are generally cheaper than those being paid by residents of many city centres in the UK including London, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds.

Dundee is not the only Scottish city with low insurance premiums either. Residents of Aberdeen and Inverness also benefit from low rates, as do those living in Lancaster in the north and Truro and Taunton in the south.

The director of insurance for moneysupermarket.com, Richard Mason, has a theory about the differing rates. "It is not surprising premiums are high in the inner city area of East London, where crime can be prevalent. Car insurers look at the rate of car crime," he said.

Many British travellers visit Scotland on short holiday breaks during the year.
