Britons the world's travel trendsetters

A new report suggests that the nation driving the world's tourism market most strongly is Britain.

Tourism Intelligence released the report at the World Travel Market today and found that British travellers are more capable than those from any other nation at finding new products, travelling in more economical ways and communicating their travel needs.

According to the managing director of Tourism Intelligence, Dr. Auliana Poon, in the past travel was "mass-produced, standardised and individually packaged".

"Now the opposite is true. The un-packaging and DIY trend is led by the Brits, and understanding them is the key to understanding how the world will travel in the future," she said.

The report, entitled How the British Will Travel 2010 looks at the increasing level of competition in the UKs tourism industry. In addition, it explores the impact of the large numbers of grey travellers and adventurous gap-year youths who are contribution to market trends.

Many older travellers are changing the way they take vacations today, opting for more exotic destinations over packaged holidays and tours.
