American Airlines to fly to Stansted

This winter, American Airlines (AA) will be offering flights along a new route between New York City and London. The Boeing 767 to be employed along the route will provide 191 economy seats and 30 business class seats between JFK Airport and Stansted.

The London airport's business development and planning director, Nick Barton, was enthusiastic about the new flights. This is fantastic news for Stansted, he said. "We are the UK's third largest airport, one of the top 50 in the world, so it's fitting that the world's largest airline has recognised the growth potential from here to develop it's links to London.

In addition to the new route to Stansted, American Airlines has also announced plans for new routes between Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and Heathrow. Starting on March 29th 2008, the airline will also begin flying to Heathrow from Raleigh/Durham, a route which only recently opened up due to the signing of the Open Skies agreement between Europe and America.

Chairman and CEO of AA, Gerard Arpey said, These are significant schedule developments and a continuing commitment driven by the London markets' importance to our customers, as well as Heathrows worldwide connections through our oneworld partners. Our new service to London Stansted will provide our premium travellers an alternative London airport and convenient access to growing business districts, Arpey said. Our customers have asked for this choice of airports, and we are going to meet that need at competitive prices.

Two airlines already operate services between Stansted and JFK Airport, although Eos and Maxjet only offer business class service. Likewise, Silverjet operates business class only service between Luton and Newark.
